Entry into Sacred Space

The Challenge

(HPS blows train whistle three times)

HPS:    Attention. Harken for the train whistle and gather in thy assigned places. Prepare for admission into the circle.

HPS:    This time is not a time; this place is not a place; today is not a day; and this night is not a night. I stand at the threshold between the Land of Sodor. I stand ready to ride the rails of our journey. May Sir Topham Hat, the fat conductor help and protect us on our journey.

Blessed be and all aboard!

Coveners:       So mote it be.

HPS:                (Challenges each covener by pointing her athame against their breast)

Better, you should strap yourself to the tracks and risk death than board this train world with malignity or fear in your heart. What say you? How dost thou come aboard?

Covener:         In perfect love and perfect trust.

HPS:                (Admits covener into the circle)

HP:                  (After being admitted into sacred space, the covener approaches the HP who then smudges the covener with sage or lavender. When this action is completed, the covener moves to their place about the altar.)

Grounding Exercise

HPS:    Stand relaxed but upright with your spine straight.

Inhale then exhale

Take several deep breaths.

In, 1, 2, 3, and out 1, 2, 3

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Focus intently on your breathing, and when a thought arises in your mind, capture it and visually send it on its way as a train down those tracks, away from you. Let it go in your mind, and in your mind’s eye.

So every time a thought, an idea, or a memory comes to you, make that thought materialize itself as a train, and watch it ride away.

In, 1, 2, 3, and out 1, 2, 3

Keep taking several deep breaths until you feel completely grounded.

Consecration of the Elements

Charge at the Pentacle

(HPS and HP with athame’s over their hearts and the other hand on the pentacle, bend in silence for a moment. During this time, they silently ask the Lord and Lady for strength and guidance.)

Blessing the Salt

HPS: (places dish of salt upon the pentacle)

I consecrate thee, O creature of Earth, Element that provides us with the Land of Sodor.

I cast from thee all hindrance and malignity, so that in my works of magick you may well serve me.

All:                   So mote it be.

(HPS removes the dish of salt from the pentacle and then places the dish of water upon the pentacle. Then she takes the salt and using her athame drops into the water three measures of salt. She stirs the water three times with the tip of her athame. HPS sets the salt aside.)

Blessing the Water

HPS:                I consecrate thee O creature of Water, element that washes the trains and makes them shiny and clean.

I cast from thee all hindrance and malignity, so that in my works of magick you may well serve me.

Blessing the Fire

(HP places the censer containing incense upon the pentacle)

HP:                  I consecrate thee O creature of Fire, element that provides heat and warmth and keeps the coal lit.

I cast from thee all hindrance and malignity, so that in my works of magick you may well serve me.

Blessing the Air

(HP adds some incense to the censor.)

HP:                  I consecrate thee O creature of Air, puff, puff, out of your smoke stacks, full steam ahead!

I cast from thee all hindrance and malignity, so that in my works of magick you may well serve me.

Casting the Circle

(HP and HPS take their athames and trace the sacred circle. If desired, they may leave a doorway in the northeastern quadrant. They walk together with the HP’s hand upon the HPS’ shoulder.)

HPS:                I conjure thee, O Circle of Power, to be a meeting place of love, joy and truth—a boundary between our world and the Realms of Sodor.

A rampart and Protection against all wickedness that shall both contain and entertain the powers raised within—wherefore do I bless and consecrate thee in the name of Thomas and all his friends.

Strengthening the Circle

By Water

WITCH 1:         Rain of water and salt sprinkled upon the ground, grant safe passage and

Protect us from wickedness and make our magick sound.

By Air

WITCH 2:         Into the night sky, puffing steam, roil, rise, into the sky

Sunder us from the mundane like a scythe.

By Fire

WITCH 3:         Fire, shine true and bright, aid, grant clarity of sight,

May the coal keep our engines running this night this night.

Drawing down the Moon

Invocation to the Goddess

HPS:    (HPS in mortal aspect begins the invocation to the Goddess)

Lady Hatt you occasionally help your husband with railway business, and the engines sometimes go to extreme lengths to help throw parties for your birthday. You like the railway, although your husband runs a railway, you like a day out on a boat or in your car.

The engines of Sodor Island are extremely fond of you and like when you visits the railway or rides in one of their coaches. You are a kind and gentle woman, Lady Hatt you praise the engines for their good deeds

Come to this circle on this Ostara night and grant me your wisdom’s might

(Light the Goddess candle)

Charge of the Goddess

HP:  Listen to words of Lady Hatt

HPS:    Whenever you feel a need to travel, better it be when you are on vacation, jump aboard a train and let the engines do the driving. Trains can take you anywhere you can imagine. Be it across town or to the other side of the island

Riding along the tracks is very relaxing; listen to the wheels along the track.

You will see the many wonders of Sodor Island while riding the tracks.

Drawing Down the Sun

HP/

Sir Topham Hatt:  you are in charge of all the engines on Sodor you have a great deal of influence on the Island. You are firm but fair, and are an extremely complex character. You often act as a father figure to the engines of Sodor – when an engine is upset you speak to them kindly, and treats all his engines equally. You do not stand for nonsense, but you are forgiving. When an engine misbehaves, as they often do on your railway, you are willing to allow them a second chance if they are truly sorry.

Master of the Sodor train rails, for those brave enough to climb aboard one of my trains please join us this Ostara night and grant me your sight.

Main Working

HP:                  Tonight we are celebrating Ostara The word Ostara is just one of the names applied to the celebration of the spring equinox on March 21. The Venerable Bede said the origin of the word is actually from Eostre, a Germanic goddess of spring. Of course, it is also the same time as the Christian Easter celebration, and in the Jewish faith, Passover takes place as well. For early Pagans in the Germanic countries, this was a time to celebrate planting and the new crop season. Typically, the Celtic peoples did not celebrate Ostara as a holiday, although they were in tune with the changing of the seasons. Spring equinox is a time for fertility and sowing seeds, and so nature’s fertility goes a little crazy. In medieval societies in Europe, the March hare was viewed as a major fertility symbol — this is a species of rabbit that is nocturnal most of the year, but in March when mating season begins, there are bunnies everywhere all day long.

All:                   Blessed be this season of Ostara,

Night of the Spring Equinox,

Night of balance.

Tonight all things stand as equals; Goddess and God,

Life and death, Dark and light,

All come together as equals as do our young deities.

But the wheel of the Year turns on

and after tonight, the light will conquer the darkness –

Blessed be the darkness,

Blessed be the light

HP & HPS:       (Take the Goddess & God candles from the altar and light the surrounding ritual candles. When finished, place the Goddess candle back on the altar and say:)

HP & HPS:       Behold the Goddess who turns the wheel,

Blessed be life renewed!”

HP &HPS:        (Then, while placing the God candle back on the altar, say:)

HP &HPS:        Behold the Light of the God,

Blessed be light renewed!”

(Take the eggs from the basket, saving one for yourself, and set them around the perimeter of the circle, clockwise. If anyone else happens to be joining you or if there are others in addition to yourself in the circle, give one egg to each person present.)

HPS:    Tonight I celebrate the renewal of my Mother Earth and the renewal of my own life as well, for we are all Her creatures and Her children of Nature.

(Holding the egg in your hand upward, toward the Sun, say)

ALL:     The egg which I hold in my hand has long been a symbol of life renewed for as many millennia as our human ancestors have walked the Earth and our Father God, the Horned One of the Forests, has protected that life.”

HPS:    On the altar through this ritual there were packets of seed, these seeds are now charged by our energy. Take a packet and plant the seeds nurture them in honor of them in the name of the Lord and Lady.

Grounding of the Circle

HPS:    O circle of power as I have conjured thee as a meeting place of love and joy on our trip to Sodor Island. I now release the energy into this blade.

Where there once existed a rampart between our world and Sodor Island. This rampart is no more. Once again, our realms are separate. However, the love and joy with which we met here tonight remains undiminished.

HPS:    This energy I return unto Mother Earth. May it help her assuage her hurts in some small fashion.

HPS:    The circle is open but remains unbroken. Brothers and Sisters, we are children of the Lord and Lady. May they always live within our Hearts, Our Magik, and Our Lives.

Merry did we meet. Merry do we part. Merry may we meet again,

The Sun of the Gods is the Christian Devil

   Posted by: Scrivener

Well, not really but it makes for an interesting catch line.

The magic square of the Sun’s six rows and columns add up to 111 producing a sum of 666. The Sun therefore resonates with the number 666 or taking the Cartesian product of 6662 or 443,556. Using Kabalistic reduction 443556 becomes 4 + 4 + 3 + 5 + 5 + 6 = 27 = 2 + 7 = 9.

Sun-Magic Square

Nine is the number of leadership (well, the sun is the head of solar system—probably why they call it the solar system) and humanitarianism. Nine is also the number of completion just as all nine in the pip cards of the Tarot symbolize the ending of a cycle and reaping the rewards of your efforts. The ninth card of the Tarot is the hermit.

The hermit has withdrawn from the mundane to search for the truth of the universe, but like the sun, he doesn’t hide his lamp rather he shines it from a prominence just as the sun shines from above illuminating everything below. It could further be stated that without the life-giving rays from above no manifestation of life below on Earth would be possible: as above, so below.

The ninth rune is Hagalaz. Hagalaz signals a major shift of energies as the Elder Futhark begins its second row of aetts. Hagalaz is the rune of objective confrontation with past patterns. It will uncover the vast flow of energies around and through human energy systems. Its nature is completely impersonal and it represents power generally beyond human ability to harness. In some ways this rune is much like The World or Wheel of Fortune tarot cards as those cards also indicate powerful forces at work but largely forces which may not be influenced by human behavior.

Some numerical coincidences of the number 666; and I don’t believe in coincidences are that the Tropic of Cancer is 66.6 degrees from the North pole, the Tropic of Capricorn is 66.6 degrees from the South Pole, the Equator is 66.6 degrees from the Arctic and Antarctic circles, and the Earth’s average orbital speed is 66,666 miles per hour (99.9%).

To complete the reduction, we can take the square root of nine (remember 666 was squared to give 443556.) That of course leaves us with 3. The Empress (the Empress is the third card in the tarot deck) rules threes in the tarot. The Empress is the supernal mother and thus nurtures new beginnings just as the threes in each of the tarot suits suggest a new beginning begun and initial first steps made.

To round out the discussion, the third rune, Thurisaz, tells us that we’ve made the right choices and taken the correct steps to put ourselves in the right place and the right time but now the best action is to take no action at all. Typically you might draw this rune after a magickal working, a tarot reading, or something as mundane as ajob interview. You’ve done all you can so now relax and trust in yourself and the universe.

The Magic square of the Sun is from Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa’s book, “De Occulta Philosophia

These repetitions of sixes are reminiscent of how the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem is 666 nautical miles from the Kaaba in Mecca.
